Full Spec Quick turn/Small Quantity and Production PCBs:
SHUNG CHING Circuits manufactures both Small Quantity and Production printed circuit boards built to IPC Class 2-3A. IPC
defines performance class 2 as "Dedicated Service Electronic Products" that include "communication equipment, business
machines and other instruments that require high performance and extended life where un-interrupted service is
desirable…."
Small Quantity PCBs Manufactured Using the Same Equipment, Materials & Processes as Production PCBs.
Shung Ching Circuits builds your Small Quantity boards using the same top-quality equipment, materials and processes that
are used to produce production PCBs. Your quick turn, Small Quantity boards are built to your specifications - to meet the
requirements that you may have for a fully functional pcb boards for testing or design verification.
FR-4 PCB Materials
Most printed circuit boards are manufactured using glass-reinforced epoxy laminate as the substrate. While there are a wide variety of laminates available on the market, FR-4 is both versatile and well-accepted as a standard material for PCB manufacture. FR-4 functions well as an electrical insulator, and has a good strength-to-weight ratio, and is flame resistant.
The standard FR-4 material that is used in our products is a high temperature, high Td, low CTE 150Tg material.
If a higher Tg material is required, we do stock a 170Tg version of our standard FR-4 material as well, that can be selected in the quoting process.
Note: The 170Tg FR-4 material has equivalency for electrical and mechanical properties with the popular Isola 370HR material, and functions very similarly. There is one documented physical difference, Isola's 370HR is listed as a 180Tg material.
Inner Layers
Inner Layers are also know as the internal layers of a multilayer PCB.
By selecting non-standard construction on the order form and uploading your desired material stack up, the thickness and copper weight of these inner layers can be customized to meet your needs. The minimum manufacturable trace widths and spacing are based on the copper weight of the layer.
Inner layers sometimes employ a "copper pour" technique. Copper pour is commonly used to create a power plane or a ground plane. Another benefit of using a copper pour is to reduce the amount of chemistry (etchant) used during manufacturing (which is better for the environment) as well as helping the layer to layer bonding process.
Inner layers may be transmitted for fabrication with either a positive polarity or a negative polarity. It is important that the polarity of the layer be noted during the ordering process in the absence of a polarity distinguishable feature (i.e. thermal connection).
Outer Layers
The outer layers are also known as the external copper layers of the PCB. Normally, the electronic components are attached to the outer layers by soldering them into through holes or onto surface mount pads.
Outer layers generally begin with a copper foil that is then electroplated with copper to increase the thickness and add copper to the through-hole barrels. The copper weight of the outer layers is predefined for the Standard Constructions. The finished copper thickness of these layers, however, can be customized to meet your needs by selecting non standard construction in the ordering process and uploading a stackup in your file set.
Minimum manufacturable trace widths and spacing requirements are based on the pre-plate (foil) copper weight of the layer.
Gold Tips
Gold tips or fingers, usually refer to the terminals on a card-edge connector of a PCB.
The application of gold fingers to an edge connector provides an ideal surface finish for high-wear applications, such as an insertion connector. This is partly due to the fact that hardened gold provides a very planar surface that is resistant to wear from repeated insertions. For the manufacture of printed circuit boards, a bright hard gold with a mixture of nickel and/or cobalt is often used for card edge connector fingers plated over a nickel underlayment.
· Gold can be ordered in conjunction with all the other surface finishes available from Sunstone Circuits.
· To aid in the insertion of parts you can request a bevel to be added to the edge.
Shung Ching offers a variety of choices. Online select from 15º, 30º or 45º .
Surface Finish
Shung Ching offers the following surface finishes for PCB fabrication to meet a variety of complex needs:
Immersion Silver — RoHS compliant finish available on all Shung Ching PCBs. This "no additional cost" coating that provides a very planar surface and a very reliable solder joint. While this finish is ideal for prototyping as well as larger lot sizes, this coating is more susceptible to temperature, humidity as well as handling. As a result, care should be taken when storing or handling these PCBs
HASL and LF HASL— Tin-lead solder coating (Hot Air Solder Level). This time tested leaded solder finish is available on all Shung Ching PCBs and at no additional cost. Solder provides the most reliable solder joint and shelf life of the available surface finishes. However due to the thickness and application of this coating, it can be less planar and may not be an ideal choice for fine pitch components
ENIG — (Electroless Nickel / Immersion Gold) RoHS compliant finish provides a very planar surface, a very reliable solder joint and is very resistant to environmental storage conditions, handling etc. ENIG is available on all Shung Ching PCBs (except ValueProto ). ENIG provides a great deal of flexibility of applications and is ideally suited for PCBs of many design needs.
Gold Fingers — Ideal surface finish for a wear application such as an insertion connector. Provides a very planar surface that is resistant to wear from repeated insertions. Gold fingers can be ordered in conjunction with the other surface finishes as well, to provide the needed solderable surface finish, as well as the wear protection needed, all on one circuit board.
Other — Shung Ching offers additional surface finishes such as: Full body (hard) gold, soft bondable gold, O.S.P., lead-free solder, immersion tin and more.
Our quality policy is remarkably simple: we’re committed to total customer satisfaction through quality leadership and continuous process improvement. At Shung Ching, we know that stellar service makes for a stronger business, and we also know that excelling in the marketplace means innovative and reliable products are a requirement.
As a Silicon Valley business providing printed circuit boards for production and development, we have to bring out our A-game in order to remain relevant. We believe passion, commitment, and trust to quality are absolutely necessary to provide customers with the best available product and service. Whether a business requires a high-volume order for a large production run or a low-volume order for a new product introduction, our customers need a consistent product and fast turnaround. We provide both.
Our desire to help our customer to the best of our abilities is the heart of our business strategy. From the first phone call to the shipment of product, we’re constantly looking to improve the service to our customer, which is our differentiator in the industry. To that end, our DFM Engineers are always standing by to discuss any unique project needs, in addition, to offering a wide range of customization options, from finish material to through-hole variance.
However, tremendous customer service is meaningless without perfect quality.
To that end, we have created processes and procedures; developed systems and audit checks; purchased state of the art equipment and have invested in the training of people to not only continuously improve, but to drive a culture committed to internal and external quality. If the culture is fostered to make it safe to admit errors and to openly discuss solutions; the company will grow much stronger and the customer will reap the benefits.
Experience has shown repeatedly that detailed planning; frequent, regular review & audits by qualified resources; and meticulous production controls are necessary to create a complex & reliable printed circuit board. The key is repeatability! Systems are necessary to gain the predictability necessary to assure we meet our customer expectations in product reliability and on time delivery.
At Shung Ching, the systems are in place. The culture is in place.
But technology doesn’t sleep. Processes are constantly evaluated, often changed, based on employee or supplier recommendations and customer feedback. Continuous improvement is the goal and together we win.
